» GMAKF’s Free Cancer Tests in Observance of Cancer Awareness Month

January is Cancer awareness month, and in observance of this event, the GMA Kapuso Foundation conducted free cancer detection tests for both men and women last January 29 and 30.  Breast exams and Pap smear for women, as well as Liver Cancer testing for both men and women were given to indigent and qualified beneficiaries. A total of 67 women had undergone breast examination, 60 for Pap smear screening and 50 individuals for the Liver Cancer test. 

» GMA Kapuso Founation Responded to 5 Fire Incidents on January 20

The GMA Kapuso Foundation quickly responded to five reported fire incidents last January 20. Affected families were cramped at their barangay basketball courts and barangay halls where they sought temporary shelter. 


 


200 families in Brgy. Baisa, Quezon City were provided with clothing, relief goods and a Soup Kitchen as well.


Meanwhile, 150  packs of  relief goods were given  to the affected residents in Malinta, Valenzuela City; 73 relief goods in Sampaloc Manila; 70 relief goods in Brgy. Maybunga, Pasig City and 90 relief goods in Binondo Manila.

» Distribution of Relief Goods to Affected Families of Flash Floods reached Iligan

Similar to what had happened to Cagayan de Oro last January 10, Iligan City was also badly hit by flashfloods. Due to the reported need by the people  in the area, the GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately responded by providing relief goods last January 22. A total of 800 families in 5 Barangays in Iligan City namely: Bgy. Suarez, Bgy. Buruun, Bgy. Hinaplanon, Sta. Filomena, San Roque, were served.


The GMA Kapuso Team, once again distributed relief goods to the affected families in Gingoog City, serving a total of 500 families from various barangays with a total/ partial damage last January 23 at Red Cross Gingoog Chapter.


 

» Heavy downpour Continues in Cagayan de Oro

Barely recovering from the aftermath of flashfloods, more rains flooded several areas in Cagayan de Oro last January 10, resulting to further destruction and affecting thousands of families. The GMA Kapuso Founation once again provided relief goods to the affected residents of five (5)  Barangays in Cagayan de Oro  namely, Brgy. Balulang (500 families) Brgy. Taglimao (500 families), Brgy. Lapasan (300 families), Brgy. Gusa (200 families) and Brgy. Tablon (200 families) from January 14 to January 15.


GMA Kapuso Foundation team also quickly responded to the reported need to 6 Barangays in Gingoog by providing the affected families with relief goods. 938 families from  Bgy. 13, Bgy. 10, Bgy. 25, Bgy. 22, Bgy. 22-A, and Bgy. San Juan were served last Jan. 16.  


 

» GMAKF quickly responded to flashfloods in Cagayan de Oro

Torrential rains since the night  of January 3 triggered flash floods submerging areas in Cagayan de Oro. Thousands of families from the province were forced to vacate their homes. The GMA Kapuso Foundation provided immediate  aid  on January 5 in the form of relief goods.  Beneficiaries were the 1185 families from 10 Brgys in Cagayan de Oro namely: Brgy. Cala Cala, Brgy. St. Ignatious, Taguano Bridge , Brgy. 13, Brgy. Carmen West-Zone 2, Brgy. Carmen West-Zone 3, Brgy. Carmen West-Zone 4, Brgy. Carmen West-Zone 5, Brgy. Carmen West- Underbridge , and Brgy. Bisigan

» A fire Broke out in Western Bicutan, Taguig
Last January 5, a fire broke out in Sitio Masigasig in Brgy. Western Bicutan , Taguig displacing 236 families. The GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately proceeded to the area and provided relief goods, packs of used clothing and hot soup to the affected residents.

» Fire incident in San Andres, Cainta Rizal
Early this 2009, the GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately responded to another case of fire in San Andres, Cainta in Rizal. Last January 4, one hundred families were given immediate relief assistance in the area. The Kapuso Team distributed packs of used clothing, blankets and mosquito nets, packs of relief goods, and servings of hot soup to the 100 families affected by the incident.

» Simultaneous relief operations in Quezon City and Makati
Simultaneous relief operations were conducted by the GMA Kapuso Foundation Team in response to two reported fire incidents in Quezon City and in Makati last December 15. A soup kitchen was served to a total of 138 families in Brgy. Pino del Pilar, Makati and to 230 families in Sitio Militar, Brgy. Toro Hills, Quezon City . The families were also given used clothes and relief goods.

» Free Blood Sugar Testing: World Diabetes Day Celebration
This year, in celebration of World Diabetes Day, the GMA Kapuso Foundation in partnership with High Precision Diagnostics Center conducted free blood sugar testing in Brgy. Citrus, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. The activity was held last November 14 serving a total of 400 individuals. This number was composed of 253 parents/guardians of our current feeding beneficiaries and 147 walk-in clients.
The free blood sugar test was conducted to measure how well an individual’s body is able to process sugar, to diagnose prediabetes or diabetes and in this case, to determine how the patient should manage his or her condition.
Test results showed that 363 patients have normal blood sugar, 24 were diagnosed as pre-diabetic while 13 were confirmed to have diabetes.
