» Linis Lusog Kids Turnover Ceremony in Camarines Norte

The Linis-Lusog Kids (LLK) project of the GMA Kapuso Foundation, in partnership with the United Nations Chilren’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Department of Education is meant to address basic health issues in children that stem from the lack of clean water and toilets.


The construction and repair of toilets, hand washing facilities and the provision of water supply were undertaken in the following ten (10) school sites: Camarines Norte (Menandro Guinto E.S. and Pagasa E.S.); Antique  (Zaragosa E.S.); Saranggani (Tagaytay E.S. and Famorcan E.S.); and in Negros Oriental (Banawe E.S., Bagtic E.S., Kayotesan E.S., Ayugon Central School and Apo Islang E.S.).


As of writing, the construction works for the water and sanitation facilities in two schools in Camarines Norte and Antique have been completed. A turnover ceremony in Menandro Guinto Elementary School in Camarines Norte took place last July 1 where newly constructed water and sanitation facilities were entrusted to two school beneficiaries in the area. In Menandro Guinto Elementary School, waterlines have been installed on the school campus and existing toilet facilities have been improved. On the other hand, an electric water pump with accessories was installed and an elevated water tank was constructed in Pagasa Elementary School .


Along with the water and sanitation facilities, the two aforementioned schools and five more public schools in Camarines Norte, namely, Sto. Domingo E.S., Juanita Balon E.S., Guinacutan E.S., Sta. Milagrosa E.S. and Larap E.S., received posters on proper tooth brushing, hand washing, and the proper use of the toilet; as well as flip charts and a video CD on alternatives to toothbrush, toothpaste and soap. All 2,480 student beneficiaries from the foregoing seven schools also received hygiene packs consisting of a toothbrush, toothpaste and soap.


Moreover, the Kapuso Team carried out its Unang Hakbang Sa Kinabukasan (UHSK) project giving backpacks full of basic school supplies to 396 Grade One students from the same five schools in Camarines Norte. In particular, the Foundation was able to serve 94 beneficiaries in Sto. Domingo E.S.; 46 beneficiaries in Juanita Balon E.S.; 45 beneficiaries in Guinacutan E.S.; 55 beneficiaries in Sta. Milagrosa E.S.; 55 beneficiaries in Sta. Milagrosa E.S.; and 156 beneficiaries in Larap E.S.

» Last Two Weeks of First Steps- 2009 Unang Hakbang Sa Kinabukasan Updates

Now on its twelfth year, the Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan intends to serve over 45,000 Filipino children from 535 underserved public elementary schools in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.


 


This year’s project started on the 2nd Week of May with thousands of backpacks and complete sets of school materials bound for distribution to our Grade 1 student beneficiaries nationwide. As of writing, a total of 40,922 children have been served from selected schools in the National Capital Region, Abra, Apayao, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Camarines Norte, Masbate, Cebu, Iloilo, Antique, Negros Oriental, Northern Samar, Davao, Surigao del Norte, Maguindanao, Sarangagani, and Tawi-tawi. Still expecting their brand new school supplies are 4,078 chidlren from the schools in Romblon, Albay, Sorsogon, and Sulu.

» Kalusugan Karavan helped to prevent the Spread of A H1N1 in Quezon City

The GMA Kapuso Foundation conducted a Kalusugan Karavan in Brgy. Greater Lagro in Quezon City last  June 29, 2009. 3,500 face masks and 2,900 hygiene packs containing toothbrushes, toothpastes, soaps, and shampoos were distributed to the students of Lagro Elementary School. In the nearby community of Greater Lagro, 537 families were provided with 550 bottles of alcohol, 1,000 bottles of vitamin C Syrup and 840 bottles of milk.


 


The medical mission was in response to the request of barangay officials as part of the preventive measures being undertaken for the spread of Influenza A H1N1 in their area.


 


Recently, there were two (2) reported cases of A (H1N1) in Lagro Elementary School and four other suspected cases being monitored, as of writing.


 

» Cavite & Malabon Residents Victimized by Typhoon Feria, served by the GMAKF

Tropical Storm Feria triggered landslides and widespread flooding as it cut across northern Philippines. The GMA Kapuso Foundation simultaneously served the affected residents in Cavite and Malabon last June 25.


 


A total of 400 families in Brgy. San Rafael III (320 families) and Brgy. Salcedo I (80 families) in Noveleta, Cavite received packs of relief goods, clothing, comforters, blankets, pillows, and mosquito nets. These areas were strongly affected by big waves and flooding caused by typhoon Feria. For the children from affected families, the Kapuso team provided them with hot soup, feeding bottles and Vitamin C Syrup.


 


On the other hand, heavy rains caused a dike in Catmon, Malabon to collapse, submerging residential areas while leaving 300 families in need of relief assistance. The GMA Kapuso Foundation responded by giving packs of relief goods and clothing to those who stayed in Catmon Elementary School and Catmon Brgy. Hall which served as their evacuation areas. . Bottles of Vitamin C Syrup were also distributed to some of the children from these families.

» GMAKF Responded to three (3) Fire Incidents in Quezon City for the month of June

A fire incident occurred in Brgy. Sto. Domingo, Quezon City last June 8. The Foundation immediately conducted relief assistance by giving away relief goods and packs of clothing for the 272 affected families. The same 1,088 individuals were also served with hot soup.


 


On June 23, the GMAKF team distributed relief goods and packs of clothing to 170 families who were left homeless when another fire hit rows of houses in Brgy. Tandang Sora, Quezon City. Residents were given relief goods, clothes and were likewise served with hot soup.


 


Another fire razed several residential houses made of light materials in Sitio San Roque, Brgy. Pagasa, Quezon City last June 27. 250 families, equivalent to a thousand individuals were victims to this fire incident and to which the Kapuso Team responded to by distributing packages of relief goods and clothing. A soup kitchen was also served and which catered to 131 children.


 

» Operation Bayanihan through GMA Regional TV personnel

The GMA Kapuso Foundation, through the assistance and support of the Regional Stations of GMA Network, is able to respond immediately to the urgent need of Filipinos who are victims of natural and man-made calamities nationwide.


 


Recently, with the help of Cebu GMA Regional TV, Operation Bayanihan was successfully conducted to help the fire victims in Mandaue, Cebu last May 24.  A total of 509 families or 2,032 individuals were provided with relief goods and clothing.


 


The team in Iloilo GMA Regional TV personnel likewise distributed packs of relief goods to residents affected also by fire in Brgy. Monica, Iloilo City last June 16. Forty (40) families received packs of relief goods as assistance.


 

» Kalusugan Karavan for Landslide Victims in Pantukan, Compostella Valley

On the 23rd of May, the GMA Kapuso Foundation conducted a Kalusugan Karavan in Brgy. Napnapan, Pantukan, Compostela Valley in response to the medical needs of the landslide victims in the mining village.


 


The landslide composed of falling mud and rocks and triggered by incessant rains, toppled down a mountainside - burying houses with its residents. The GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately provided the medicines for the 12 admitted injured residents as requested by the Pantukan District Hospital. Patients also received packs of relief goods from the Foundation.

» GMAKF: Responds to 3 Fire Incidents in one week

The GMA Kapuso Foundation responded to the needs of fire victims in three (3) fire-stricken communities in the cities of Pasig and Taguig, all in one week.


The first fire broke out in Malvar Street, Brgy. San Antonio, Pasig City at approximately 8:38 p.m. last May 19, 2009. 180 individuals were served with hot soup and 250 affected families received packs of relief goods and clothes.


Four days after, 268 families in 1st Avenue, Laura Drive, Bagumbayan, Taguig were served with packs of relief goods and clothing. 158 children out of the more than a thousand affected individuals served in this area were served through the Soup Kitchen provided by the Kapuso Foundation.


On May 25, just two days after the previous incident in Taguig, 210 new victims of another fire were provided by the Foundation with packs of relief goods. Hot soup was also provided for the 142 children in the area of Rodriquez Compound, Tramo, Rosario, Pasig City.

» 10,000 Resident Victims of Typhoon Emong, served by the GMAKF

Not long after Typhoon Dante hit the Bicol Region, Typhoon Emong’s movement out of the Philippine Sea and off the northeast coast of Luzon, caused massive flooding and landslides.


 


The GMA Kapuso Foundation quickly provided immediate assistance in the form of relief goods to 2,500 affected families, equivalent to 10,000 residents, in three Municipalities in Pangasinan from May 11 to May 13.


 


In Anda, Pangasinan, 1,210 families from three Barangays received packs of relief goods from the Foundation: 210 families in Brgy Sablig, 600 families in Brgy. Tondol and 400 families in Brgy. Tori-Tori.


 


In Agno, Pangasinan, 290 families from two Barangays received packs of relief goods: 200 families in Brgy. West and 90 families in Brgy. East.


 


The Municipality of Bani was the last Municipality to be served. 1,000 packs of relief goods were distributed to families in four Barangays: 400 families in Dacap Sur, 150 families in Centro Toma, 150 families in San Simon, and 300 families in Ranao.
