» GIVE-A-GIFT:FEEDING
Ongoing feeding project launched last July 25,2008 at Brgy. Citrus, San Jose del Monte , Bulacan. 278 malnourished children are given free meals for a period of 120 days.



» KAPUSO SCHOOL REHABILITATION PROGRAM
Last September 11 to 14, 2008, the foundation team conducted a site visit and ocular inspection in San Fernando,Romblon. Two schools in San Fernando Romblon on the Island of Sibuyan were visited and assessed for the Kapuso School Rehabilitation program.

Mabini Elementary School and San Fernando Elementary School were destroyed by typhoon Frank last June 2008.



» SPECIAL DONATION
A total of nine (9) personal computers donated by the ICT Department of GMA Network were distributed to schools built or rehabilitated by the Foundation in the areas of Villa Aurora, Nueva Ecija and Quezon. The computers were distributed from September 3 to 10, 2008.

» Project: OPERATION BAYANIHAN
Maguindanao: Armed Conflict
Last September 7, 2008 , the Kapuso Team served 2,300 families in Datu Piang, Maguindanao due to the recent armed conflict of government troops and rebels in Mindanao area. The displaced families received relief goods consisting of food and clothes. 100 School bags complete with school supplies were also distributed to students affected by the conflict.

Compostela Valley: Landslides
Last September 27, 2008, the Kapuso team distributed relief goods to 700 families in the Municipality of Maco, Province of Compostela Valley severely affected by the landslides.



» Project: BISIG BAYAN
From September 1 to 27, 2008 a total number of 394 walk-in indigent patients were served through “Bisig Bayan,” the Foundation’s medical assistance program. The Kapuso Foundation was able to provide for the much needed medicines and laboratory exams of qualified and deserving beneficiaries. Aside from the medical assistance two wheel chairs were also released to two (2) spinal cord injury patients.



» Project: Give-A-Gift: Hernia
The annual operation for patients with hernia was held last August 23-24, 2008 serving a total of forty-five (45) male and female children. The said beneficiaries successfully underwent surgery conducted at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center.

Kalusugan Karavan: Dagupan
The recently concluded medical mission in Dagupan City held last August 16, 2008, served a total of 1,820 indigent beneficiaries. The successful project was conducted in partnership with Pharex Health Corporation serving 916 adults and 875 children through free check-ups and medication. A pair of crutches, fifteen (15) folding canes and thirteen (13) wheelchairs were also given to qualified beneficiaries.

SPECIAL DONATION
Ten (10) computers were handed over to the following schools in Albay and Sorsogon. These were the same school beneficiaries of the Foundation’s UHSK: Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project. The computers were donated by the ICT Department of the GMA Network, Inc.

Sagip Dugtong Buhay 2008

The annual bloodletting project of the Foundation collected a total of 650 bags of blood donation (approximately 260,000 cc’s of blood) from individuals and various organizations. Kapuso stars, Jolina Magdangal, Karylle, Tolits, Bea Binene and Pinoy Pop Superstar Mariciris Garcia graced the activity.

The “Sagip Dugtong Buhay” is also held in celebration of Ms. Mel C. Tiangco’s (EVP, GMAKF) birthday. The generated blood donation is turned over to the Philippine National Red Cross, the sole beneficiary for this project.



» Project: Give-A-Gift: Feed A Child
The 120-day Give-A-Gift: Feed a Child Project was launched last August 23 – 24, 2008. This is the Foundation’s second Feeding Program for the year in partnership with the National Nutrition Council. 278 children from Brgy. Citrus, San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan are the beneficiaries for the said project which aims to uplift the nutritional condition of malnourished children.



» Project: OPERATION BAYANIHAN
TYPHOON ‘FRANK’
The Kapuso Team served 2,500 families in Cotabato City last August 2-3, 2008. Families affected by the flashfloods brought about by the overflow of the Rio Grandes river due to the massive clogging of water lilies, received relief goods consisting of rice, noodles, canned goods and clothes.

TYPHOON KAREN
Last August 22-24, 2008, the GMAKF team immediately responded to the victims of typhoon Karen in Dingras, Ilocos Norte. The team was able to serve 1,000 families by distributing relief goods, clothing, candles and matches.

Lanao Del Norte: Armed Conflict
A total of 3,500 families were given relief goods and clothes by the GMAKF team in Lanao del Norte during the period of August 23 – 27, 2008. This is GMAKF’s response to the need for assistance by displaced families brought about by the armed conflict between the MILF and government troops.

» Project: UNANG HAKBANG SA KINABUKASAN
June is Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan (UHSK) distribution month. Incoming grade one pupils in selected areas in Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the NCR were provided new back packs complete with notebooks, pad papers, pencils, sharpener, and eraser.



» Project: Give-A-Gift: Feed A Child
July 30, 2008 marks the graduation of 243 children beneficiaries of the Give-A-Gift: Feed a Child project. Launched on February 15, 2008 the 120 day feeding project in Brgy. Sta. Ana Pateros probed to be successful in attaining its goal of improving the nutritional standing of the 243 children. Now, the children have reached the normal nutritional value and weight as prescribed by the National Nutrition Council.

On July 25, 2008 the foundations second feeding program of the year will be launched at Brgy. Citrus, San Jose del Monte. Here, 278 malnourished children will benefit from the 120 day feeding program of GAG: Feeding project.



» OPERATIONS BAYANIHAN: Fire response
July 22, 2008 the foundation responded to a fire in Brgy. 823 824 Zone 89, District V – Paco, Manila. . 500 families were given relief goods consisting of noodles, canned goods, water and clothes to the affected families. Aside from the relief goods distributed a “Soup Kitchen” was also readily available for the fire victims.

» Project: OPERATIONS: BAYANIHAN TYPHOON FRANK
June 23 to July 19, 2008 Operation Bayanihan in response to the affected areas and families of typhoon Frank in Ilo-Ilo, Antique, Aklan, Roxas City , Marinduque, Romblon and Cotabato.


11,820 affected families affected by Typhoon Frank received relief goods consisting of rice, noodles , canned goods and clothes.



» Project: BISIG BAYAN
From June 30 to July 14, 2008 a total number of 322 walk-in indigent patients were served through “Bisig Bayan” which is the medical assistance program of the foundation. The foundation was able to provide for the much needed medicines and pledges for medical needs and procedures.



» April 21
April 21 A fire incident hit Barangay 118, Pasay City displacing some 180 families. Immediately, the GMA Kapuso Foundation provided ‘Soup Kitchen’ and distributed relief goods to the affected families.



» May 04
May 04 At least 1000 families were rendered homeless by a fire in Barangay Tunsuya, Caloocan City. The GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately established its presence in the area by providing relief goods. The affected individuals were also served with steaming noodle soup from the Foundation’s “Soup Kitchen”.



» May 10
May 10 A blaze placed the lives of 70 families in Barangay Concepcion, Malabon. In a matter of hours, the GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately responded to the situation by providing relief goods, used clothes and bottled water.



» May 13
May 13 A flashflood made life miserable for more than 120 individuals in Bagong Silang, Quezon City as the continuous rain caused the water to reach knee-high and forced residents to search for safer grounds. The GMA Kapuso Foundation team responded to the pleas of our kababayans by distributing relief goods.



» May 20 - 23
May 20-23 Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan (UHSK) started its distribution right in time for the school opening as it deployed teams to Mountain Province, Biliran, Naga and Masbate. A total of 5,520 incoming grade 1 pupils were gifted with bag and school supplies. This project aims to inspire these kids to stay in school and value education.



» May 27 - 30
May 27-30 Our second stop for our UHSK project were the cities of Dagupan and Cebu and the far flung areas of Lanao del Norte and Romblon. 4,824 children will benefit from this project.



» June 3 - 7
June 3-7 Executive Vice President Ms. Mel Tiangco together with showbiz personality Ms. Pia Guanio traveled all the way to Davao to take part in the distribution of school bags to indigent students. Meanwhile, depressed and underserved schools in NCR and Surigao del Norte were also beneficiaries of Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan. A total of 13,260 grade 1 pupils benefited from this undertaking.



» June 10 - 13
June 10-13 Approximately 8,891 grade 1 students in Bacolod, Iloilo and Agusan del Sur were given backpacks filled with school supplies on the 4th week of UHSK.



» April 10-11 - A mother of three (3) children afflicted with mental disorders was visited by the GMA Kapuso Foundation. This has been the second visit made by the Foundation since their case was brought to the attention of the management. The children were assessed by Dr. Millicent Mae Fronda – De Vera, a behavioral and developmental pediatrics in order to determine the appropriate treatment for each kid. The therapy was carried out right away after the assessment.



» April 9 - Hundreds of houses were razed down and scores of lives were placed in menace after a blaze took place in Cubao, Quezon City. The GMA Kapuso Foundation responded right away to the immediate needs of the victims by providing them with relief goods.



» April 6 - At least 250 families were rendered homeless by another fire incident in Barangay 118, Caloocan City. In a matter of hours, the GMA Kapuso Foundation readily established its presence in the area by extending help to the victims. Aside from the relief goods, the affected individuals and families were also served with steaming noodle soup.



» April 4 - A sudden blaze hit Barangay San Isidro in Parañaque City displacing some 230 families. The GMA Kapuso Foundation immediately proceeded to the area to provide relief goods and hot noodle soup to the affected residents.



» March 28-29 - The GMA Kapuso Foundation in partnership with the AFP Reserve Command and 3rd Technical Service Battalion provided free medical and dental services to 2000 residents of Maimbung Jolo, Sulu. This is part of the Foundation’s Kalusugan Karavan, a roaming medical mission in far flung areas where medical services are inaccessible.

United Laboratories, Glaxo Smith Kline and New Citizen’s Dental Supply provided the Medicines while Tinapayan provided food for the doctors, army soldiers and volunteers.



» March 27 - Through the efforts of GMA TV-Davao, the GMA Kapuso Foundation was able to provide relief goods to 300 families affected by a fire incident in General Santos City and to 200 families in Tupi, South Cotabato affected by a tornado. This undertaking was also made possible through the assistance extended by DSWD Region 12.

The transport of goods from Manila to Davao was provided by Sulpicio Lines, Inc.

Bisig Bayan Weekly report for the week of March 31 to April 18, 2008: A total number of 368 walk-in indigent patients were served through the Bisig Bayan project of the Kapuso Foundation. Prescribed medicines were given to the patients as well as pledges for other medicines and diagnostic procedures.
