GMA FOUNDATION, INC., a non-stock, non-profit charitable institution, was founded in 1991 in response to the need of displaced Filipinos during the Mount Pinatubo eruption and the tragedy at Ormoc. For the next five years, the foundation sustained its efforts to address the needs of the victims of man-made and natural calamities by referrals and direct provisions of resources and services. Though composed mainly of volunteers (from the employees of the GMA Network), its operation as a loose foundation was firmly guided by the principle of philanthropy, the value of charity and the synergy of complementarity.
In June 1996, with the desire for greater impact, GMA Foundation adopted a more formal system, processes and structure still with the mandate to promote the public welfare through an active involvement in philanthropic, humanitarian and charitable services. The change also meant systematizing the foundation’s programs to better address the demands of its clients. To further make a more relevant contribution to the lives of its publics, the foundation has engaged individuals and has partnered with various institutions and organizations. To date, the foundation has served a cross-section of the Philippine society- from the metropolis to the far-flung and war torn areas of the country. Indeed, GMA Foundation has evolved into what it is today- a foundation one in heart with the Filipinos regardless of the colors of life, offering the best of serbisyong totoo, and effectively bridging the gaps between all Kapuso everywhere. Rightly so, it is now GMA KAPUSO Foundation.
